Summary
Scrapbook of clippings showing people, mostly children, from around the world. It was compiled by Davis in 1936; a note indicates that in 1966 it was dedicated to James Weldon Johnson's memory by pupils of James Weldon Johnson Elementary School, P.S. 57, New York, NY. Letters dated 1936 from Davis to Grace Nail Johnson and Eleanor Roosevelt, which are held in the James Weldon Johnson and Grace Nail Johnson papers, clarify that the Human Family Album is one of several scrapbooks Davis prepared and gave away, "each one conveying the thought that we are all members of one human family," with the goal of changing the minds of white and Black people and "removing thoughts of bitterness against others." This item was originally enclosed with Davis's correspondence to Grace Nail Johnson.
