Summary
Photographic reproduction of 2 paintings made by George W. Campbell in 1925 while a midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy after the contemporary (October 1779) paintiings by a Dutch artist in Texel. The flags were flown by the United States Navy ships Alliance and Serapis in the Port of Texel, Holland, October 4-5, 1779. The top flag flew on the Alliance. The bottom flew on the Serapis; it has tri-colored stripes and eight-pointed stars in three rows of 4, 5, and 4 stars.
