Biographical / Historical Note
The Barony of Saint-Vidal was established by the 13th century and is seated at Château de Saint-Vidal, Le Puy-en-Velay, Haute Loire, France. The fortress at the center of the château was built in the 13th century, and expanded in the 16th century. The de la Tour and Rochefort d'Ally (or d'Ailly) families are associated with the Barony and château. Pierre-Joseph, Marquis de Rochefort d'Ally bought the castle in 1748, and subsequently sold it in 1765 to Louis-Augustin Porral. The castle then passed to the Diocese of Puy-en-Velay, which later abandoned it. The property was broken up when sold at auction in 1922, and in 1930 the castle was bought by the Sahy family.
