Biographical / Historical Note
Hermann Bokum (1807-1878), German Reformed minister. Bokum immigrated to the United States from Prussia in 1826 and taught German and French at the University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, and Harvard University. In 1842, he was licensed to preach and was ordained a pastor in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He later taught in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Knoxville, Tennessee. Bokum returned to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1873 and engaged in general missionary work until his death in 1878.
