Summary
The book is divided into four parts. The first part is an overview of the natural and human conditions of the Mekong sub-region. In the second and longest part, the book presents the history of the five modern countries along the Mekong: Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. The third part of the book discusses cooperation in the Mekong sub-region. Only cooperation within the subregion can provide opportunities to preserve our heritage and manage water resources, respond to climate change, plan the construction of dams, etc. The fourth part of the book presents Vietnam's policy in its efforts towards sustainable development of the Mekong and outlines some patterns of past regional interactions and the position of Vietnam in that regional context.
