Biographical / Historical Note
The Roycroft Shop was a reformist community of craft workers and artists which formed part of the Arts and Crafts movement in the United States. It was founded by Elbert Hubbard and located in East Aurora, New York.
Summary
Collection of signatures relating to members of the Roycroft Shop, compiled by an unidentified individual. Includes manuscript verses and signatures by John Winfield Aitken, Roycroft Shop printer Lyman Chandler, Elbert Hubbard, his wife Alice Hubbard, George Wharton James, Osborn Rennie Lamb, entertainer Marshall P. Wilder, and more. The signatures are written in a copy of Elbert Hubbard's 1903 book So Here Then is a Little Journey to the Home of Joaquin Miller (East Aurora, N. Y. : The Roycrofters, 1903). Includes two newspaper clippings laid in featuring an article on Joaquin Miller being honored at the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland, Oregon and President Theodore Roosevelt traveling through the United States in 1903; and a blank photographic postcard depicting three members of the Roycroft Shop.
