Biographical / Historical Note
Peter Colt (1744-1821) (Yale 1764) was appointed Deputy Commissary General of purchases for the Eastern Department by the Continental Congress in 1777 during the American Revolutionary War. In 1780, he traveled with Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau’s French Forces to ensure that they were supplied properly.
