The New York Urban League (formerly the Urban League of Greater New York) is an organization that empowers African Americans and other underserved communities to secure a first-class education, economic self-reliance, and equal respect of their civil rights through programs, services, and advocacy.
Summary
Typescript copy of a report providing information from worksheets prepared for the Urban League's Research Department on the status of Black residents of New York City with respect to housing, education and health conditions, as well as recommendations for the responsibilities of the Urban League and other social and governmental agencies. An introduction provides basic population statistics illustrating the growth of the Black, white, and Puerto Rican populations in New York City. The focus is on Black residents, but many of the areas discussed also include significant populations of Puerto Rican residents and the report addresses their needs as well.
