Biographical / Historical Note
Jaida Grey Eagle is an Oglala Lakota artist, as well as a photojournalist, producer, beadwork artist, and writer.
Black Lives Matter (BLM) is a decentralized political and social movement highlighting racism, discrimination, and racial inequality experienced by Black people.
George Floyd (1973-2020) was an African-American man who was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an arrest over a suspected counterfit bill on May 25, 2020.
Daunte Wright (2000-2020) was an African-American man who was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during a traffic stop on April 11, 2020.
Winston Boogie Smith, Jr. (1989-2021) was an African-American man who was murdered by law enforcement authorities in the Uptown area of Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 3, 2021.
The Stop Line 3 protests are a series of demonstrations in Minnesota against the expansion of Enbridge's Line 3 oil pipeline. Opponents of the pipeline expansion, called water protectors, have established resistance camps and ceremonial lodges along the route of the popeline.
The Dakota 38+2 Memorial Ride is to honor the Dakota people murdered at Mankato, Minnesota, in the largest mass execution in United States history. The 330-mile horseback ride begins on the Lower Brule Indian Reserve and ends in Mankato.

Photographs taken by Jaida Grey Eagle of protest movements taking place in Minnesota, 2020-2022. Photographs in the Twin Cities Metroplitan Area relate to the George Floyd protests, the Daunte Wright protests, and the Black Lives Matter movement. Among those depicted at events are Toshira Garraway, Jesse Jackson, Toussaint Morrison, Courtney Ross, and Al Sharpton. There are also photographs of the vigil for Winston Boogie Smith, Jr. in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis. Depicted locations include the Cup Foods at Chicago Avenue and 38th Street, Minnehaha Lake Wine & Spirits, the Federal Bureau of Investigation building at Brooklyn Center, and the Hennepin County Government Center.
Included are photographs relating to the Stop Line 3 protests and Dakota 38+2 Memorial Ride, as well as formal studio portraits of Indigenous women including Isabella Lablanc, Bernie Lafferty, Holyelk Lafferty, and Mikayla Patton.
Groups of images document a Danza Azteca (Aztec Dance) performance, as well as Lakota women performing a jingle dress dance. Signs and graffiti in the photographs reference the United States detention of children at the U.S.-Mexico border and cases related to missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
