"In verse. Spine title: Charms for children. Format similar to other Aunt Louisa titles described in the McLoughlin Bros. catalogue for 1875. "The doings of the alphabet" is listed among "Aunt Louisa big picture books" in "New stock for the season 1879-1880" in the McLoughlin Bros. catalogue for that year. Half-title and first page of text for each section printed on recto and verso of one leaf; rest of text printed on one side of leaf only. In green pressed paper binding, with chromolithographed paper label on upper cover. One illustration signed "Howard del. Cogger sc." (i.e., Justin H. Howard and Edward P. Cogger?). Plates chromolithographed."
