Summary
"Title and imprint statement transcribed from p. [1] of printed wrapper. At head of wrapper: Price five cents each. Variously attributed to Oliver Goldsmith, Giles Jones, Griffith Jones and John Newbery. Publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of wrapper, consists of entries for "Folding game boards," including The pilgrim's progress (retail price $1.75), and "Go-bang--new--ready in September ... retails $1 00 each." This game is not listed in the McLoughlin publisher's catalogue for 1876-'77; catalogues for 1877-'78 and 1878-'79 were not available. The McLoughlin catalogue for 1879-'80 contains entries that are identical, except for the prices: The retail price of The Pilgrim's progress is listed at $1.87 1/2, and the price of Go bang is listed at $1.12 1/2. Cover wood engraving is printed in red and black ink."
