Summary
"At nightfall, his baseball cap firmly planted on his head, DJ Da Capo dominates Johannesburg from the top of Constitution Hill and plays deep house titles, sounding like the preview of a big party to come. Nicodimas Sekheta Mogashoa, his real name, fell into the house music scene when he was little and his magical powers haven't faded since. Self-taught, he managed to reach South African ears with his EPs and remixes, but also to cross borders. In 2010, he signed with DNH Records, the label of Toronto-based DJ and producer Nick Holder. Now 32 years old, he is a fixture on the national electronic scene and plays in clubs around the world. On the occasion of Black History Month last February and the event co-organized by Qwest TV, Da Capo takes place at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, a former prison converted into a museum which now houses the Constitutional Court. Between afro and deep house, Da Capo opens his set with a track by his compatriots Black Motion, then intertwines South African voices (particularly that of the magnificent Nokwazi), percussion, and electronic beat, gradually taking us into his universe which lies between introspection and danceable rhythm.
