Summary
"From the end of the 19th century until the middle of the 20th century, composers sought to detach themselves from traditional forms of Romanticism in order to move towards Post-Romanticism. Curious about these sounds, in 2016 and 2017 François-Xavier Roth concocted an initiatory program around this musical revolution. The London Symphony Orchestra performs the ""Prelude for the Afternoon of a Faun"" (or ""Eclogue for orchestra based on Stéphane Mallarmé""), the "Viola Concerto"" conducted by soloist Antoine Tamestit, and Symphony No. 4 by Bruckner. If romanticism is still very present in the latter, the compositions of Debussy and Bartok flow towards Impressionism and Expressionism. Debussy moves away from Romanticism with more natural colors both in harmony and in orchestration. Bartok, meanwhile, definitely breaks away from it by putting popular music at the center of his works. A true journey through the history of music, let yourself be drawn into late Romanticism and the different paths which take us further ... Alissa Polonskaya".
