In sliding between modern rock, hip hop and classic jazz arrangements, he seamlessly integrates conventional instruments, song form, composition and improvisation with an array of modern technology. From cutting his teeth at the Manhattan School of Music, where he received tutelage from hugely influential pianist Kenny Barron, he has gone on to experiment stylistically, through forays into the avant-garde. But for those who have followed his career, this kind of trailblazing will come as no surprise. Only two years after the release of his debut album in 1999, the still teenage Parks received a fellowship from the American Pianists Association, one of the most lucrative prizes of its kind in the world. It turned out to foreshadow the rise of one of jazz' brightest prospects. Here, nearly two decades afterwards, he graces the stage of the Moods Club in Zurich alongside Greg Tuohey on electric guitar, Anders Christensen on electric bass, and Tommy Crane on the drums and electronics. The performance came three weeks after his 2018 album, *Little Big*, at the end of an extensive tour.
