Summary
"This book provides food for thought about the significance of three components such as SDGs, women empowerment and inclusion of women in the parliament altogether and is a must read since it not only brings the reader face to face with the present realities regarding gender issues through collected data but also aids in providing solutions in order to fulfill SDGs." Mr. Sradhanand Sital, Chairman, Global Human Rights Defence, The Hague. Former Speaker of Lok Sabha, Smt. Sumitra Mahajan has written the 'Foreword' for this book. This book analyses the systematic and procedural issues that are faced by women in the Parliament and brings to light the systematic ignorance of certain issues supported by data on the Parliamentary Debates, Question Hours and functioning of Parliamentary Committees. Combining these technical issues with substantive legal arguments in favour of gender mainstreaming, this book acts as a tool of strategic advantage for policymakers, legislators, advocates and researchers. This work unearths not only the problem areas of the research theme, but also dedicates a solution which relies on effective monitoring techniques used globally, specifically to achieve the SDGs in the field of Nutrition, Family Planning and Sexual and Reproductive Health. Bhumika Modh has completed her LLM degree in Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights from the University of Essex and her doctoral degree is on the right to mental health in India. She has a range of experience working in academics and policy research in institutions like the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Centre for Law and Policy Research, Global Human Rights Defence (The Hague), and many others. Bhumika was the first Asian woman in 43 years to receive the Medal of Excellence for Diploma in International and Comparative Law of Human Rights at Institut international des Droits de l'Homme (IIDH Strasbourg). She was awarded the Lok Sabha Research Fellowship in 2016 by the Parliament of India. Her research interests are human rights, health, and public policy.
