Summary
A fragment of Sharḥ al-Hamzīyah, a commentary on "al-Hamzīyah fī madḥ Khayr al-Barīyah", a panegyrical poem in praise of the Prophet Muḥammad, by al-Būṣīrī (Abū ʻAbd Allāh Sharaf al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Saʻīd, 1213?-1296?), a well-known Egyptian poet of Maghribī descent, born in Bahshīm (Egypt) in the region of Bahnasāwīyah, and died in Alexandria (Egypt). "al-Hamzīyah" is named after its "qāfiyah" (rhyme) which ends with the Arabic letter "Hamzah". The name of the author of the present commentary is not mentioned. However, he states in the introduction that he consulted (selected from) the two commentaries on "al-Hamzīyah", by al-Jawjarī (Muḥammad ibn ʻAbd al-Munʻim, 1418-1484), and by Ibn Ḥajar al-Haythamī (Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, approximately 1503-approximately 1566). Some sources attribute the present commentary to a certain "al-Ṣaghānī", or, "al-Ṣāghānī" (Brockelman: I:266; Berlin 7828). Name of copyist and place and date of copying not mentioned, probably from the 18th century.
