Summary
Electronic reproduction of documents relating to slavery in Portuguese colonies, primarily Brazil. The collection includes: Royal Portuguese laws considering various aspects of slavery; instructions to the captain of the Portuguese schooner Tamega regarding the stop and search of every ship on the high seas or in ports where he suspects slave trafficking; account book of a Brazilian official, with a list of slaves; bills of sale for slaves; the case of a former slave woman who successfully sued the Brazilian courts for her freedom; slave registers.
