The author, an architect with a master's degree in Architecture-History, analyzes the architecture and situation of nine buildings in the city of Chimbote (the largest city in the Ancash Region in the Pacific coast) at different times in its short history from 1872-2019. The selected buildings are a tangible representation of the city; from these we seek to understand the reason for its current state: promising but also contradictory. The nine buildings are: the former Railway Station, the former Tourist Hotel, the Chong Multifamily building, the Buenos Aires Fire Station, the Housing Modules of the Los Cipreses urbanization, the former Chimbote Mortgage Bank, the the Provincial Municipality of Santa, the Nuevo Chimbote Cathedral and the MegaPlaza Shopping Center.
