Summary
The letters were written during their engagement, in India after their marriage, and after her health compelled her to return to Scotland in 1860.The series from December, 1856 to January, 1857 is in reply to Baird Smith's letters of the same period (MS.10983). The letters mostly concern her family and social life, with occasional references to her father. Also included are some letters from her sisters Margaret and Emily.
