Summary
Description: Summary of British views on Nixon's performance during the year. British Ambassador John Freeman's Annual Review for 1970 focusing on Nixon's foreign policy record including his handling of Vietnamization, troop withdrawals, intervention in Cambodia, the Middle East, support for NATO and the enlargement of the EEC, as well as improved relations with the Soviet Union. Poor showing in mid-term elections. Domestic difficulties were due to the state of the economy, high unemployment, inflation, strikes and an upsurge in protectionism. US/UK relations. Nixon's troublesome relations with US Congress and his strategy to try to secure re-election in 1972.
