"Anonymous Stellar Ravines comprises 75 "telepathic eruptions"--Will Alexander's poetic responses to Byron Baker's ink drawings. The original collaboration included 327 "visual scripts" by Baker, to which Alexander contributed improvisational responses. This is Alexander's first artist's book, though he collaborated with artist Baker in a prior work, The Codex Mirror (2014), which Cornel West described as "powerful and poignant," bringing "together two great artists who take us on a journey so badly needed in our dark times." Alexander's recent book, Refractive Africa, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2022. The pages were printed in Los Angeles by E&T Graphics, including tipped-on digital prints of Baker's drawings. The title and colophon pages were printed by Aardvark Letterpress. Cloth-covered clamshell boxes were fabricated by Charlene Matthews, and assistance to the project was provided by Armand Kossayan. Published by Granary Books in New York City. This is from an edition of 25 copies, plus 2 copies hors commerce, numbered and signed."--Publisher's website.
"Byron Baker, painter and ecstatic visual practitioner, lives and works in Los Angeles, where he telepathically collaborates with poet Will Alexander since 2015, beginning with the book, "The Codex Mirror" (Anon Editions), and group exhibition "Optic Occultation: Visible Invisibility." Alexander and Byron paint many large scale oils on canvas, culminating in their 2022 exhibition, "Telepathic Evanescence," at the Mike Kelley Gallery, Venice, California. Prior exhibitions include the Los Angeles group exhibitions, "Remove Your Hat" and "Two-Headed Collage," (Madusa Gallery), both in 1984, and "Harvest Of Evil" (Ti Rojo Gallery) in Columbus, Ohio, 1983. A solo exhibition of Byron Baker's works on paper, "Searings," opened at the Oeno Vino Gallery of Los Angeles in 2014. Baker's work has also been featured in the anthology, Invisible Heads: Surrealists in North America (Anon Editions, 2011); poet Jhim Pattison's posthumous collection, In The Arms Of The Honey Eaters (Anon Editions, 2013) and many other works. He has also contributed to various periodicals: Spectra, La Vertebre et le Rossignol 5, Brumes Blondes, A Phala, The Michigan Quarterly Review, and Aerial Archipelago."--Publisher's website.
