Summary
Tells his mother he left New York the morning after her and arrived in Newport 22 hours later. He dined in Providence, spent the night there, and then went to Boston and stayed with Henry Jackson. He is currently staying with his uncle William Knox until he gets to Hingham for school. There has been a head wind and no packets leaving, but he will leave on the first available transport. Wants his mother to write to General Jackson about his books and to remind his father about the gun. Reports his good health. Continued the letter on 18 November and apologized for the poor writing as he lacked a penknife.
