Decoration: ten historiated initials on bright gold grounds at major textual divisions depicting: Christ pierced by swords (f. 1r), the Nativity (f. 15r), the Judgement of Pontius Pilate (f. 22v), the Flagellation (f. 30v), Christ carrying the Cross (f. 39r), the Crucifixion (f. 47v), the Deposition (f. 59v), Christ lying in his Tomb (f. 61r), a coffin draped in blue (f. 80v), Epiphany (f. 84v). Multiple two-line initials in gold and colors with ivy-leaf extensions in the margins, some with beasts resembling dragons; blue, red, and gold multi-line initials with penwork. Alternating red and blue initials; rubricated throughout.
Binding: vellum over pasteboards. Red label on spine: Missal.
Foliated every ten leaves.

Various manuscript notes in modern pencil: flyleaf iv: Breviary France / XVth Century, Parchment Cover. On flyleaf iir are pasted in two bookseller’s labels. Some manuscript notes in ink: flyleaf iiv: Chas. Clay M.D. / Audenshaw Lodge / Audenshaw / Nr. Manchester; a list recording all historiated initials: Christ / Nativity / Christ Before High Priest / Scourging / Carrying the Cross / Crucifixion / Taking Down from Cross / Entombment / Alter (sic) / Wise Mens Offering; ownership inscription on flyleaf iiir: Robert Highfield / Sheffield / Bought from a dealer in old books in Brussels 1866, had lost binding and was in fragments. In a different hand: submitted for inspection and examination to R. H. Soden Smith M.A. Art Librarian South Kensington Museum who said it was a very interesting example of illuminated M.S. written in the 15th Century in the reign of Henry Vth / Fletcher Norton [1883]. Formerly owned by Otto Ege (Ege 13.1999). Manuscript volume was on deposit with the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA); inventory number on front flyleaf: TR 12333/19. Purchased from John M. Freudenheim, Tom Freudenheim, Jo Freudenheim, Susan Core, Richard Core, and Michael Frisch, via JSJT Holdings, LLC, 2015-2018, with Edwin J. Beinecke Book Fund, Herman W. Liebert Book Fund, and the John W. Corwith Memorial Fund.

Illuminated manuscript, on parchment, in unidentified hand, containing a liber matutinale, the lessons and responses for the night office of Matins. Text is fragmentary, many leaves and headings missing. Contains lessons for: Saturday before the Sunday of Advent (f. 1r), Christmas (f. 15r), Monday of Holy Week (f. 22v), Tuesday of Holy Week (f. 30v), Wednesday of Holy Week (f. 39r), Thursday of Holy Week (f. 47v), Friday of Holy Week (f. 59v), Saturday of Holy Week (f. 61r), Kyrie, litany, petitions (ff. 74v-75v), Prayers for different people (ff. 76r-77v), Advent (f. 78v), Common of Saints (f. 80r), Office of the Dead (f. 80v-84v), Epiphany (f. 84v), ..., Commendation for the Dead (f. 170r).
