Summary
The cultural art programs of Maximilian of Habsburg to support his political program, with its tensions, failures and achievements, is captured in this pioneering study by Esther Acevedo, renewed in its explanations and images. Through a network of national and foreign intellectuals and artists, imperial patronage promoted the creation of a gallery of heroes, the circulation of the faces and bodies of rulers, the appreciation of the pre-Hispanic past as a starting point for national history strengthened in the National Museum and in research, as well as the modification of the urban layout of the capital.
