Summary
A promising young reporter is given an unprecedented opportunity to move up quickly through the ranks of The New York Times. Questions about the accuracy of his reporting and the source of his material, however, soon turn his case into a referendum on the leadership of Executive Editor Howell Raines and Managing Editor Gerald Boyd. Reporters soon begin taking sides as a credibility crisis and loyalty rift develop among the Times staff.
