Summary
"Known for its iconic black-and-white depictions of barrio culture, Teen Angel's, sometimes written as Teen Angels, popularized Chicano street culture and the art behind it. The magazine was first issued in 1981 by San Jose based artist David Holland and could be found at Chicano clothing stores and lowrider shows for the next three decades before it ceased regular publication in 2006. The magazine's goals, printed in the first issue, include four points: encourage members to draw; demonstrate that through art, young people can communicate their feelings; be the kind of club everyone can belong to; and encourage more kids to get interested in their art work and working on projects rather than to see them fighting among themselves or destroying their creative minds with drugs. The magazine included photocopied photographs, hand-drawn portraits, lowrider art, typographic pages, poetry, community notices, dedications and other work"--Johnson Rare Books.
