Documentary about the trial that followed the Reichstag fire, focusing on Dimitrov's defence. Dimitrov is portrayed as a brilliant man who undid the prosecution's case by undermining their witnesses and making plain his loyalty to the German people. Radio recordings of the exchange between Dimitrov and Göring, with translations by the narrator, are played over the top of these images in a particularly powerful sequence. This, combined with interviews with British law professionals, present a situation in which Dimitrov dominated the trial and put National Socialism in the dock. The film draws towards an end with international calls for Dimitrov's release, and his later work to campaign for other communists imprisoned in Nazi Germany. It concludes with the denunciation of Fascism as a war on the working people, complete with images of death and destruction.
