Absorbed in 1846 the New sporting magazine, the Sportsman, and the Sporting review. Title-pages bearing these titles were published for the whole period until 1870 but the text was in each case that of the Sporting magazine for the same date.

Issued with each number of the magazine, which was throughout its life divided into two volumes a year, was a supplement which was paged continuously throughout the year and in the set here catalogued was bound after the last number of the second volume. This was entitled successively: 1792-1845, The Racing calendar; 1846-1866, The Turf register (July-Dec. 1853, The Turf calendar); 1867-1870, The Racing and steeple-chase calendar.
