Biographical / Historical Note
The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library was designed by Gordon Bunshaft of the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. It is the gift of Edwin J. Beinecke (Yale 1907), Frederick W. Beinecke (Yale 1909S), Walter Beinecke (Yale 1910) and their families. The gift was announced in 1960 and the design was submitted that same year. Ground was broken in May, 1961, and the library opened in October, 1963.
Summary
Photographs of the architect's model of the Beinecke Library, taken at eye level from the plaza, from a slightly higher angle, and directly over the plaza and sculpture garden, in daylight and at night. Signed by Ezra Stoller on inside back cover.
