Following the preface and a three-page table of contents, the volume contains a history of the author's family in the town, as well as descriptions of the social, religious, political, and working life there from ca. 1859 to 1880. An addenda includes typed excerpts from "Mitchell & Curtis' History of Dodge County, 1870"; typed newspaper obituary notices of the death in 1880 of the author's father, Samuel Lord, Judge of the Fifth Judicial District; and Mantorville Express newspaper clippings relating to the Mantorville old settlers' reunion in 1919. Pencilled margin annotations in an unidentified hand regarding subjects of the text appear throughout. The volume is illustrated with numerous photographs of Mantorville buildings, early settlers, and the author's family and friends.
