Summary
Videotape testimony of Tatyana K., who was born in Berislav, Ukraine in 1934. She recalls a round-up (her two older brothers refused to go); escaping (she did not "look Jewish"); witnessing the mass shooting of Jews, including her parents and two younger siblings; hiding with her two brothers; receiving food from Romanian troops; hiding six months with her brothers and another boy in a haystack; leaving due to cold; separation from her brothers; returning to Berislav; hiding with a woman, who told her that her brothers had been shot; being forced to leave; begging for food and shelter at different houses; living in a village with a man who told his wife that she was his daughter from a previous marriage; his wife's cruelty during his frequent absences; liberation by Soviet troops; reunion with her aunt; moving with her aunt and uncle to Nikopol' and Cherniv︠t︡si; attending school; marriage in 1954; the births of two children; posing as a non-Jew to keep her job; and emigration to the United States. Mrs. K. discusses visiting Berislav in 1991 with her children and grandchildren and finding the field where her family was killed and people who had helped her. She shows photographs.
