The set was originally issued on analog discs in 1986 as CLA 1000. De Lara''s recordings were originally issued on private analog discs, Davies' on Columbia 78 rpm discs, the 1903 recordings by Eibenschütz on 78 rpm.

Program notes & bibliography by Jerrold Northrop Moore, including discographical details, included.

De Lara was recorded 1949-1951 (in part from live performances); Davies recorded 1928-1930; cd. 6 has Brahms' cylinder from 1889 (1st track) & Eibenschütz recorded in 1903 (2nd-4th tracks) & 1950, 1952 & 1962 (remainder, from live performance on radio broadcasts). The De Lara performances are from private recordings made by Michael Thomas.
