Summary
On-line version of collection of 19th-century song sheets held by the Library of Congress. Not to be confused with sheet music, song sheets are single printed sheets, usually six by eight inches, with lyrics but no music. They were widely distributed in 19th-century America helping to popularize the latest songs by allowing Americans to learn their words. The collection spans the eighty-year period from ca. 1800 to the 1880s.
