Biographical / Historical Note
G.A.V. Stanley (Uda Baroma) (b. Sydney, 1904), geologist, bibliographer and historian, went to Papua in 1927 and spent most of his life there until his death in October 1965. He worked with a number of oil companies in Papua and New Guinea and was awarded the DSC for his was service with RANVR and the Far Eastern Liaison Organisation (FELO). In 1962 he returned to Australia to work with the Bureau of Mineral Resources in Canberra.
Summary
Items mostly relate to surveys undertaken for the Anglo-Persian Oil Co. (APOC), Oil Search Ltd. (OSL) and the Australian Petroleum Co. (APC). Material includes letters, reports, maps, equipment and stores lists, photographs and other documentation related to geological survey work. Guide is available from the Bureau. Reel 1; items 1-10.
