Summary
Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of several hundred entries, both handwritten and with newspaper clippings pasted in, regarding the histories, transactions, circumstances, and conditions of Ward's parish, Aldwinckle St. Peter's, and its members. The manuscript contains numerous histories of Aldwinckle, including one taken from Bridge's History of Northamptonshire; drawings of coats of arms of persons connected with Aldwinckle; a list of curates of St. Peter's from 1632 to the present; monumental and tombstone inscriptions; a catalogue of the contents of the registers at St. Peters; a list of names of those who received money from the "Poor Allotments" charity; an 1861 census of Aldwinckle; pamphlets on laws governing the parish; and several legal documents and receipts. The volume also includes numerous entries on Rev. Thomas Haweis; printed pamphlets and handwritten entries regarding Achurch Church, Northamptonshire; and several entries on the Lilford estate. The first page of the manuscript is a biographical account of Ward written by J.E. Jackson, rector of Leigh Delamere, 1 Jan 1881.
The manuscript also includes numerous visual materials, including garden plans, notes and plans of land distribution, brass rubbings, a map of the Hanover Tramways in 1879 with the name "Winkel" underlined; a watercolor, floor plan, and several engravings of the church; and drawings of monument inscriptions.
Two printed works are bound with the other works in the manuscript: Act for dividing and inclosing the common and open fields, meadows, commonable lands, and waste grounds in Aldwickle, in the county of Northampton; and Anno regni Georgii III. regis Magnae Britanniae, Franciae, & Hiberniae, decimo octavo. At the Parliament begun and holden at Westminster, the twenty-ninth day of November, anno Domini 1774 ... and from thence continued ... to the twentieth day of November.
