Biographical / Historical Note
Baroness Sophia Charlotte Mary von Kielmansegg was the eldest daughter of the Baron and Baroness von Kielmansegg (later Countess of Leinster and Darlington). In 1719, she married Emanuel Howe, 2nd Viscount Howe, and traveled to Barbados with him when he was appointed governor in 1732. She became increasingly active politically following his death in 1735.
Summary
Manuscript, in a single hand, of notes regarding the Howe family property and finances. The volume contains such entries as "Stock Account," which records the amount held "in trust for Marianne after Charlotte's death"; "Marianne's Fortune"; "Pearce's Account of Property of Lord Howe"; and "Property sold since Lord Howe's Death 1815." Dos-a-dos are recorded notes apparently by Lady Sophia Howe, who mentions purchasing both "the Houses at Cross Deep Twickenham...1802" and Alexander Pope's house in July 1807.
