Between the winter of 1861 and April 1864, a group organized by Peter A. Sinnott, known as the adopted citizens, campaigned for equal rights for foreign-born citizens. Hayman, R.W. Catholicism in Rhode Island and the Diocese of Providence 1780-1886, 1982, p. 154.
Issued in April 1864. The Providence journal of April 2, 1864, reported that a convention of adopted citizens met at the Court of Magistrates room, College St., Providence, on April 1, 1864, but did not adopt a ticket. This broadside suggests that the "leaders" afterwards retired to their own rooms where the resolutions and ticket were adopted.
