"Die Wacht am Rhein. Max Schneckenburger. This song was written thirty years before 1870, but became famous in that year, when the enthusiasm of the whole German nation was aroused to its greatest pitch. The poet himself had long been dead when this song resounded from one end of Germany to the other."--p. [2]. First line: Es braust ein Ruf wie Donnerhall.
