Summary
A savage and often ironic epic about the effects of imprisonment, fear, and torture in a police state. Twenty years after an aborted revolt of 1848, several hundred Hungarian outlaws and peasants are rounded up and imprisoned by the ruling Austrians in hopes of identifying active rebels. One of the men desperately betrays his fellow prisoners.
