Biographical / Historical Note
David Ottenstein (born 1960) graduated from Yale College in 1982 with a degree in American studies and a concentration in photography. Ottenstein works as a free-lance photographer based in New Haven, Connecticut.
Summary
Ink jet print photographs that document the transformation of the Iowa countryside from traditional family farms to industrial farmsteads, as well as the growth of agricultural industries in the American Midwest, 2004-2010. The images document traditional farmhouses, barns, silos, corn cribs, sheds and other farm buildings. They detail the physical changes of the natural and built landscape that accompany the social and economic trends at the turn of the of twenty-first century in the American Midwest. The collection includes some images of Illinois.
