Biographical / Historical Note
Sir Nicholas Bacon is the father of Francis Bacon. Until recent times, his poetry was thought to have been lost, but in 1919 Henry Daniel printed his edition of these poems from a manuscript in the possession of Rev. M. H. Marsden.
Summary
In addition to 23 poems by Bacon, the manuscript contains: a prayer made by Sir Nicholas Bacon; a letter written by her majesty to Sir Amyas Paulet, Knight; the arguments exhibited by the Lorde Keeper in parlyament proving that noblemens persons be attachable for contempt comitted by them; an address in Parliament concerning Mary Queen of Scots; and a speech given by Sir Walter Mildmay at the sentencing of Mr. Secretary Davison for his role in the execution of Mary Queen of Scots. Manuscript, on paper, in cursive script, produced in England during the late sixteenth century (after 1587).
