"The Traveller" is dedicated to the author's brother, the Rev. Henry Goldsmith. "True beauty" is included in editions of Goldsmith's works under title: The double transformation. "The adventures of Tom Dreadnought" is Goldsmith's Essay no. 24.
This title was advertised in the Pennsylvania chronicle, July 11-18, 1768, as "lately published and to be sold by R. Bell." - Another edition, with identical imprint, has the word "likewise" in a separate line on the title page, and gathering B follows leaf A6. (That edition was issued as part of: Montagu, Lady Mary Wortley. The poetical works of the Right Honourable Lady Mary Wortley Montague .. London [i.e. Philadelphia?], 1769].) In the present edition, the words "True beauty, a matrimonial tale; likewise the" appear in one line, and gathering B is inserted after leaf A3.
