"The terror attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001 shook the world and ushered in a new era of terrorism. The media rose to the occasion by dealing with the attacks and its aftermath extensively; in fact, few events have gotten that much media attention. Based on a twofold approach, incorporating semiotics and cultural memory studies, this study compares three of the biggest US newsmagazines, Newsweek, TIME and The NewYorker as for their 9/11-related output and the commemorative issues and articles that appeared in the years following the attacks.
