Summary
Videotape testimony of Rose N., who was born in a small town near Przemyślany, Poland (today Peremyshli︠a︡ny, Ukraine), in 1922. Mrs. N. tells of the Soviet occupation in 1939; the German invasion; her father's decision to hide in the woods; going with her mother and sister to a relative's home in Przemyślany; arduous living conditions; briefly returning home with her family in 1942; being forced to return to Przemyślany when a ghetto was established; and escaping to the woods in December 1942 with her parents and sister. She recalls being left with her sister in the care of a local sheriff; two other Jewish girls who were saved by the sheriff's wife; having to leave when the sheriff's activities aroused local suspicion; living in the forest for twenty-seven months with her parents and other escapees; liberation by Soviet troops; returning to Przemyślany; moving to Bielsko-Biała, Poland where she married; emigrating to Paris with her family in 1947; the birth of her first son in 1948; and arrival in the United States in 1953.
