Alexander "Alec" Stern (1904-1994) was a printmaker, painter and illustrator born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and raised in San Francisco, California. He studied at Columbia University and at the California School of Fine Arts. In 1955, he established a studio and publishing business in San Mateo, California.

Etching depicts the Rainbow Fountain in the Court of Flowers at the Golden Gate International Exposition, 1939. The etching is titled, Rainbow Fountain, Court of Flowers, Treasure Island, and signed by the artist at bottom of the etching.
