Summary
"An early example of a 'mug shot' here used to try and discover various crimes that the imposter 'Alice Grey was thought to have committed. Alice Grey's name became something of universal title for any impostor by the 1860's and her activities also helped to foster a whole sub genre of nineteenth century sensation literature dwelling on imposters. She was caught by the police in November 1855 and tried at Wolverhampton but then acquitted of several crimes, she was immediately re-arrested and three months later at the Stafford assizes, was found guilty of perjury and sentenced to four years in prison."--Adapted from bookseller's description.
