Summary
This gripping crime melodrama set a new standard for realism in Hollywood. Victor Mature is Nick Bianco, a two-bit crook who is trying to go straight. He has a wife and two girls to feed, but nobody hires ex-cons. Nick cooperates with the D.A. (Brian Donlevy) to save his family. The D.A. wants Nick to squeal on up-and-coming hood Tommy Udo (Richard Widmark), but that could be very unhealthy -- for Nick and his two young daughters.
